Cabernet Franc...of course!

Carmel, California is a great spot to have on one’s birth certificate. Not a bad way to start out in life. A move to Silicon Valley surrounded by vineyards and attending Mirassou Elementary wasn’t a bad second step.

Then for a teenager the unspeakable happened, mom and dad decided to move to Fresno. Destiny seemed to be playing a dirty trick. Years later, upon reflection, it was probably the best thing to ever happen.

While attending Fresno State in 1993, and discovering geography just wasn’t a life long dream, Susan met Dr. Carlos Muller, Director of the Enology Program. Forty-five minutes later he had the rest of her life planned. He was an amazing man with a gift to launch people on their path and has inspired many a great winemaker. She walked away with theoretical and practical skills in winemaking, marketing and public relations. In 1996 she moved to Napa Valley and started work at Peter Michael Winery.

Destiny took its final twist when on 4th of July weekend in 1997 Susan happened into the Rombauer tasting room and met Andy. Although only one of them remembers that first visit (we will let you guess who that is) and it took three years later to finally start dating, after ten short months Susan and Andy eloped to Lake Tahoe in May 2001.

In the summer of 2004 Andy came home one day and suggested they launch their own label.  Susan had only one caveat...Cabernet Franc. Everyone has that first wine moment that truly inspires. Susan’s was at a restaurant in Visalia, California in 1994 with a bottle of Napa Valley Cabernet Franc.

Today Susan markets wines for six wineries during the day. Her wanderlust has taken her to some out of the way places. She enjoys planning her next adventure and reading. Lately it's been a lot of Orwell...go figure
